Islamabad: Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday has directed the former Prime Minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif to surrender before the court in Avenfield reference, GNN reported.
According to details, a two-judge bench of Islamabad High Court, comprising Justice Aamir Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, heard the pleas against the convictions of Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, and Captain Safdar in Al-Azizia, Avenfield and Flagship references.
During the proceedings, the court has decided to give a chance to PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif to surrender before the court.
Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani remarked that Nawaz Sharif has to appear before the court for hearing. If he is absconder in the reference then he may face additional three-year imprisonment, he went on to say.
The judge added that skipping appearances in the trial is also a crime over which, the counsel said that Nawaz Sharif is undergoing medical treatment, however, he will return after fully recovering from the illness.
The court said that there is no proof of Nawaz Sharif’s treatment. Khawaja Harris responded, “Federal government can investigate whether the ex-premier is telling a lie or not.”
The court remarked that if he failed to do so, the court will issue a final surrender order.
While directing Nawaz Sharif to appear before the court on next hearing, the court has adjourned the hearing till next week.
