Washington: Hollywood’s actor Chadwick Boseman has passed away after suffering from cancer.
According to details, Boseman, who is known for playing Black Panther in the hit Marvel superhero franchise, died at his home in Los Angeles with his wife and family by his side.
The 43-year-old actor was diagnosed with colon cancer four years ago but kept the information private.
His family released a statement post his demise in which they termed Boseman as a ‘true fighter’.
“A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much. From Marshall to Da 5 Bloods, August Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and several more – all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy. It was the honor of his career to bring King T’Challa to life in Black Panther,” his family said in the statement.
The news has left everyone devastated from his fans and film fraternity fellows.
Boseman has many prominent roles to his credit including baseball great Jackie Robinson in 2013’s 42, and soul singer James Brown in 2014’s Get on Up.
However, it was his role in 2018’s blockbuster film Black Panther which took him to the heights of fame. Boseman’s role in the film as the ruler of Wakanda, a fictional African nation with the most advanced technology on earth, earned him worldwide fame and praise.
The film earned $1.3 billion US dollars (£973m) at cinemas worldwide and was widely seen as a cultural milestone for having a largely black cast and a black director, Ryan Coogler.
Black Panther was the first superhero film to be nominated at Academy Awards.
He also played the same role in other Marvel films Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. A sequel was in under progress and due to come out in 2022, with Boseman set to return.
