Washington: United States (US) President-elect Joe Biden has said that citizens will not be forced to take a Covid-19 vaccine when one becomes available in the country.
Biden, who is due to take charge on January 20, would hold a low-key inaugural ceremony without large crowds due to coronavirus pandemic in country.
“My guess is there’ll still be a platform ceremony but I don’t know how it’s all going to work out,” he said.
On the other hand, Pfizer and Moderna both have applied to US Food and Drug Administration to distribute their vaccines in the country.
On Wednesday, United Kingdom (UK) became the first country in the world to approve the Pfizer vaccine for widespread use.
Reportedly, federal approval for coronavirus vaccine is almost “a week-and-a-half away.”
The Pew Research Center says just 60% of Americans are currently willing to take a coronavirus vaccine.
Mr Biden has also urged all Americans to wear mask all the time for 100 days as the country has entered “a phase of high-level transmission” of the virus.
US recorded over 225,000 new positive cases and 2,500 deaths in one day. It has so far confirmed 14.3 million cases and more than 278,000 deaths.
