Islamabad: China has welcomed the end of Pakistan’s ban on social media video-sharing site TikTok.
In a press briefing, Chinese Foreign ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said that Chinese government “asks Chinese overseas enterprises to strictly comply with international rules and local laws and regulations and respect local customs and beliefs.
He added that the relevant issues were handled through “friendly consultations”.
Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) on Monday restored TikTok across the country after blocking the immensely popular site ten days ago on October 9. PTA had cited “vulgarity and indecent content” as the reason for the ban.
PTA has said that the ban was lifted after assurance of moderation of content by TikTok managers.
TikTok has itself also released a public statement lauding the restoration.
