Islamabad: The government on Tuesday has approved an increase in power tariff up to 84-paisa per unit, GNN reported.
According to details, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has approved an increase in the electricity tariff under monthly fuel price adjustment for electricity consumed in August.
The additional fuel cost will be charged to consumers in the coming billing month.
Previously, the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA), on behalf of the distribution companies, had requested the NEPRA to jack up prices.
Authorities said that the increase in power rates is being on account of variations in fuel price adjustment of the month of July. The price of electricity includes charges for fuel used to generate it.
The summary further requested to increase the electricity tariff by Rs0.86 per unit in order to recover the amount from the consumers.
According to details, the cost of energy production for the month of July was Rs4.40 per unit while the cost of reference fuel was Rs3.54 per unit.
