Lahore: An accountability court on Thursday has approved a 14 day long remand physical remand of Khwaja Asif, and handed him over to National Accountability Bureau.

The court also approved that Khwaja Asif could meet his wife and his lawyers at NAB’s Lahore office. Earlier in the morning, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader was brought to court amid tight security in an assets beyond means case.

The senior leader was arrested by NAB on December 29. The watchdog bureau has alleged that Khwaja Asif has been unable to give satisfactory response on the origins of his assets worth Rs. 260 million. An Iqama held by the former Defence Minister from 2004 to 2008 was cited as Khwaja Asif had said to have earned Rs. 136 million for consultancy services.

The PML-N leader has alleged that he has been arrested to weaken his party head, former Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif.
