Lahore: Today marks 46th birthday of singing maestro Rahat Fateh Ali Khan.
Rahat was born into a South Asian musical family and began formal training at the age of seven.
He is the nephew of sub-continent’s legendary Qawwal Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and also had the honour of studying and performing under the tutelage of his uncle referred to as “King of Qawwali”.
Rahat has more than 50 albums to his credit and has performed in numerous high-profile concerts around world. He has sung more than a hundred and fifty songs in both Lollywood and Bollywood.
In June last year, Khan was awarded with an honorary degree from the prestigious Oxford University.
He is among eight other individuals who have received their honorary degrees at the ceremony.
Oxford University had described him as a “Pakistani singer, primarily of Qawali, a devotional music of Muslim Sufis”, while announcing that he will be conferred with an honorary degree.
