Islamabad: Prime Minister Imran Khan presented a 10 point agenda before the UN General Assembly, recommending measures the global community needs to take to end coronavirus pandemic.
The UN General Assembly held a special session on the novel coronavirus pandemic on Thursday.
Prime Minister’s list started off with asking for relief on loans and interest on repayments for lower-income countries. The second point asked for cancellation of debt for least-developed countries that are no longer in a position to pay.
Other points on the agenda included expanded concessional financing for lower income countries through development banks, creation of a new “liquidity and sustainability facility” which could provide cheaper short-term loans and a general allocation of special drawing rights of $500 billion.
Imran Khan also reminded the world to meet the target of mobilising $100 billion per year for climate change repercussions in developing countries. He also asked for immediate return of assets stolen by corrupt politicians and criminals.
