Islamabad: Federal Minister for Industries Hammad Azhar on Wednesday announced that a Chinese smartphone company has decided to set up a manufacturing unit in Pakistan.

The facility will be established at M-3 Industrial Estate Faisalabad as the Punjab government and Vivo, the smartphone brand, signed agreement in this regard last week.

Azhar in a tweet said that the Chinese tech giant has also purchased land for setting up the plant.

“Deployment of DIRBS eliminated smuggled phones. It was followed up by Mobile Manufacturing Policy. Revenues already doubled and now local manufacturing taking off,” said Azhar in a tweet.

The project will brought initial investment of $10 million into Pakistan.
