Lahore: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) may relieve Azhar Ali of captaincy of the national test team, sources have told GNN.
Wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan is a strong contender for the post.
To evaluate whether to retain him as captain for the New Zealand tour, PCB has started reviewing Azhar Ali’s performance.
Other than Rizwan, Babar Azam is also a strong contender, should the position be open. However, it is being discussed that this third captaincy might prove to be too heavy a burden for the batsman who is already the skipper of the T20 and One-Day International formats.
The final team will be announced in the second week of November.
Pakistan is scheduled to play two tests in New Zealand from December 26.
