Mumbai, June 28 (KPN): The Hindu residents of a society in Mumbai city of the Indian state of Maharashtra created ruckus and raised Hindu religious slogans after a Muslim man brought two sacrificial male goats ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
The Muslim man identified as Mohsin Khan living in Mumbai’s JP North high-rise society brought two male goats inside the building for sacrifice ahead of the Eid-Al-Adha festival. This action agitated the residents of the Mira Road society. They gathered together on Tuesday night and started chanting ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ and raised slogans of ‘Jai Shree Ram’.
Members of Hinduta organization, Bajrang Dal, also joined the protestors and raised slogans with them. Police reached the spot immediately and used force to disperse the crowd.
Talking to the media, Mohsin said, “More than 200 Muslim families live in this society. We used to bring goats every year, but there was no commotion and no one objected. This time for the first time some people have protested.” He Mohsin said, if he has done anything wrong or if this act is unethical then people are free to file a case against me at the police station.
Mohsin said that they had already demanded from the society that they should be given a place to keep goats. We had clearly said that we will not sacrifice here, he added.
Muslim families said, “We keep goats here because we do not have any other place for it. We keep goats here only till Bakrid. Apart from this, we do not give sacrifices here either. For this, they go to the slaughterhouse or the place fixed by the government, where the sacrifice is made.”
The religious intolerance by the followers of Hindutva ideology has been on the rise since Narendra Modi-led communal BJP came into power in 2014. The phenomenon has reached to an alarming proportion now as members of minority communities, particularly Muslims and Christians, are not being allowed to perform their religious obligations. Their homes and even religious places are being attacked by the Hindutva goons on a daily basis.
