New York: Pakistan again stands for people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), as Ambassador Munir Akram, Pakistan\u2019s permanent representative to the UN said that the decades-long dispute wherein not only the rights Kashmiris are being brutally suppressed and have but has caused the two armies deployed in close proximity coupled with induction of major destabilizing weapons has severely deteriorated the regional security situation.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, the situation has further been exacerbated, he added, by the induction of major destabilizing weapons and war-fighting doctrines, India\u2019s sponsorship of terrorism against Pakistan and the absence of dialogue and international action, Ambassador Munir Akram said.<\/p>\n
\u201cUnless determined steps are taken by the international community to address this situation, it could emerge as the proximate cause of a regional and global catastrophe,\u201d the envoy said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the immediate aftermath of South Asia\u2019s nuclearization, Pakistan offered to conclude a \u2018Strategic Restraint Regime,\u2019 envisaging reciprocal limitations on nuclear, missile and conventional capabilities, together with efforts to resolve outstanding disputes, especially the festering dispute over IIOJK.<\/p>\n
Ambassador Munir Akram warned the United Nations (UN) Disarmament Commission that New Delhi\u2019s policies threaten regional peace as they have caused South Asia\u2019s security environment to be \u201cvolatile and explosive\u201d.<\/p>\n
He raised the matter with UN Disarmament office and he lamented India\u2019s weapons acquisitions and hostile military posture.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe security environment in South Asia has deteriorated sharply in recent years, as the region\u2019s largest state has embarked on a program of massive armament,\u201d Ambassador Munir Akram said during a session of the intergovernmental organization\u2019s subsidiary body.<\/p>\n
Stressing that India has adopted war-fighting doctrines such as the \u201cCold Start\u201d which envisages a surprise attack on Pakistan, and a \u201climited war under the nuclear overhang\u201d, Ambassador Munir Akram said: \u201cIt [New Delhi] is now the world\u2019s largest arms importer, and is being supplied by its \u2018strategic partners\u2019 with nuclear, missiles, conventional and other destabilizing weapons.\u201d<\/p>\n
His remarks come after Pakistan\u2019s Usman Jadoon was elected Chairman of the Disarmament Commission\u2019s 2024 session whose three-week session commenced a day earlier.<\/p>\n
Pakistan, he pointed out, has sought to achieve the objective of undiminished security at the lowest possible level of armaments, noting it had proposed the creation of a nuclear-weapon-free zone in South Asia.<\/p>\n
\u201cUnfortunately, 20 after the adoption of this commitment, one South Asian State unilaterally conducted nuclear weapons explosions,\u201d the Pakistani envoy said, adding that Islamabad was obliged to follow suit.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
