{"id":20401,"date":"2022-11-06T07:54:12","date_gmt":"2022-11-06T07:54:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailykashmirpost.com\/eng\/?p=20401"},"modified":"2022-11-06T07:54:12","modified_gmt":"2022-11-06T07:54:12","slug":"pm-to-leave-for-egypt-to-attend-cop27-tomorrow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailykashmirpost.com\/eng\/2022\/11\/06\/pm-to-leave-for-egypt-to-attend-cop27-tomorrow\/","title":{"rendered":"PM to leave for Egypt to attend COP27 tomorrow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will leave for Egypt tomorrow to participate in the &#8216;Sharm El-Sheikh Climate Implementation Summit&#8217;, which is part of the 27th UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) being held\u00a0on November\u00a07<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0and 8<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, other cabinet members and senior officials will accompany the premier during his two-day official visit.<\/p>\n<p>Shehbaz will also participate in other high-level events as a speaker, including the UN Secretary General\u2019s roundtable to launch the Early Warning Systems for Executive Action Plan\u00a0and the &#8216;Middle East Green Initiative Summit&#8217;\u00a0on November 7, which is being hosted by Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Mohammad bin Salman (MBS).<\/p>\n<p>According to the Foreign Office, the PM is expected to co-chair, along with his Norwegian counterpart, a high-level roundtable discussion on &#8220;Climate Change and the sustainability of vulnerable communities&#8221;\u00a0at the invitation of the Egyptian presidency of COP27 on November 8.<\/p>\n<p>He is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with several world leaders on the margins of the summit.<\/p>\n<p>The COP is a summit attended by countries that are signatories to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).<\/p>\n<p>Presently, Pakistan, along with other developing countries, is on the front line for advocacy for matters like implementing promises made in past conferences, developing transparent mechanisms for climate financing, creating dedicated loss and damage (L&amp;D) finance facilities, and increasing funding for climate adaptation.<\/p>\n<p>The summit is taking place at a time when millions of people in Pakistan, and millions more in other parts of the world, are facing severe adverse impacts of climate change.<\/p>\n<p>Given the myriad of climate change-related crises that await the country, the federal government is now\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tribune.com.pk\/story\/2384399\/climate-changes-adverse-impact-on-pakistan-to-be-highlighted-at-cop-27\" rel=\"nofollow\">planning<\/a>\u00a0to highlight the country\u2019s precarious position at the summit.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will leave for Egypt tomorrow to participate in the &#8216;Sharm El-Sheikh Climate Implementation Summit&#8217;, which is part of the 27th UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) being held\u00a0on November\u00a07th\u00a0and 8th.
