WASHINGTON: National Security Adviser Moeed Yusuf has said that Pakistan has other options if US President Joe Biden continues to ignore the country\u2019s leadership.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe president of the United States hasn\u2019t spoken to the prime minister of such an important country who the US itself says is make-or-break in some cases, in some ways, in Afghanistan \u2014 we struggle to understand the signal, right?\u201d Mr Yusuf told\u00a0The Financial Times<\/em>\u00a0in an\u00a0interview<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve been told every time that\u2026 [the phone call] will happen, it\u2019s technical reasons or whatever. But frankly, people don\u2019t believe it,\u201d he said. \u201cIf a phone call is a concession, if a security relationship is a concession, Pakistan has options,\u201d he added, refusing to elaborate.<\/p>\n

The US State Department, however, has assured Islamabad that Washington recognises Pakistan\u2019s vital role in restoring peace in Afghanistan and wants the country to play that role. \u201cPakistan has much to gain and will continue to have a critical role, be well-positioned to have a role in supporting the outcome\u201d in Afghanistan, said US State Department\u2019s spokesman Ned Price.<\/p>\n
