{"id":10968,"date":"2021-07-20T07:39:52","date_gmt":"2021-07-20T07:39:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailykashmirpost.com\/eng\/?p=10968"},"modified":"2021-07-20T07:39:52","modified_gmt":"2021-07-20T07:39:52","slug":"us-says-it-recognises-supports-pakistans-efforts-to-implement-fatf-action-plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailykashmirpost.com\/eng\/2021\/07\/20\/us-says-it-recognises-supports-pakistans-efforts-to-implement-fatf-action-plan\/","title":{"rendered":"US says it \u2018recognises, supports\u2019 Pakistan\u2019s efforts to implement FATF action plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON: A couple of days after India admitted to its negative role in keeping Pakistan on the grey list of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), the US has said that Pakistan has made \u201csignificant progress\u201d on its first action plan with 26 of 27 actions items &#8220;largely addressed\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>During a regular press briefing Monday, State Department Spokesperson Ned Price said \u201cwe do recognize, and we support Pakistan\u2019s continued efforts to satisfy those obligations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The State Department spokesperson was asked to comment on Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi\u2019s statement over Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar\u2019s admission that Pakistan is on the FATF grey list because of the &#8220;efforts of Narendra Modi&#8217;s government.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Price said that the US encourages Pakistan to continue working with the FATF and the international community to swiftly complete the remaining action item by demonstrating that terrorism financing, investigations, and prosecutions target senior leaders and commanders of UN-designated groups.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe do further encourage Pakistan to expeditiously implement its new second action plan.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Afghanistan issue<\/h2>\n<p>The State Department was also asked to speak on the issue of the alleged abduction of the daughter of Afghanistan&#8217;s envoy to Pakistan after Kabul recalled its senior diplomats from Islamabad.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfghanistan\u2019s neighbours do have a role to play. I would add that tangible and material support for the Afghanistan peace process is vital for its ultimate success, as are the longer-term relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the US certainly do hope to see Afghanistan\u2019s neighbours play a constructive, responsible role in bringing about a just and durable solution here. \u201cWe understand the crucial role that Pakistan has the potential to play in this regard as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Peace talks<\/h2>\n<p>He also urged the Afghan groups to continue talking to achieve peace through talks. The official mentioned that the Afghan government and the Taliban have issued a joint statement and declared to accelerate negotiations towards an inclusive political settlement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cWe certainly welcome that statement. We hope to see follow-through, because we \u2013 as we have said, continue to believe that only a negotiated settlement can bring an end to 40 years of conflict that the Afghan people have endured, and we urge the Taliban to uphold the commitment in the joint declaration \u2013 the declaration that I just mentioned \u2013 to protect Afghanistan\u2019s infrastructure, to protect civilians, and to cooperate on humanitarian assistance.
