Speaking in the Parliament, MP Imran Hussain said holding of such an international conference in an internationally recognized area of concern under international law should quite rightly concern the whole of the international community.

While welcoming the statement of a UN Special Rapporteur wherein he criticized the G20 tourism meeting in Srinagar, MP Imran Hussain said there is an obligation on all nations that are part of the G20 to make a clear stance against this, because they have not just one reason, but three reasons. Notably, Fernand de Varennes, the UN Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues, had stated that the Government of India is seeking to normalise what some have described as a military occupation by instrumentalising a G20 meeting and portray an international seal of approval.

The UK parliamentarian said how a can conference on tourism be held in Srinagar without addressing the persecution, aggression and injustice faced by the Kashmiris on a daily basis.

He further questioned, “How can the G20 support a conference at Srinagar when there are outstanding United Nations resolutions, and how can the international community stand aside when we clearly have issues of huge concern after what has happened with the revocation of Articles 370 and 35A?”

Expressing his resolve to stand in solidarity with the sons and daughters of occupied Jammu and Kashmir and be their voice, MP Imran Hussain urged the international community including the UK government to make a strong statement in support of the oppressed Kashmiris.
